Bohemian Wedding in Oaxaca (Puerto Escondido, Mexico) | Mayela + Gustavo

Beach wedding at Hotel Escondido (Oaxaca, Mexico)

This was one of my favorite and most gorgeous weddings in Mexico ever experienced or photographed. Mayela & Gustavo decided to take their friends and family for this bohemian getaway, and couldn’t have picked a better venue than Hotel Escondido (boutique hotel close to Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca). The location offers you everything needed for a tropical intimate wedding: it’s private, cozy, has gorgeous architecture, surrounded by plants and cacti, and right in front of the warm Pacific - and is definitely a dream for any professional photographer (if you’ve been here, you know what I’m talking about).

The most difficult part for us was the planning and pre-wedding “meetings”, as the couple was coming to Puerto Escondido from different parts of Mexico - so our interviews and “wedding tips sessions” were held through Facetimes, and what a fun couple of calls it was!

Maye and Gus had a perfect idea of a bohemian style Mexican wedding, which was a 100% hit! Their closest friends and family were staying with them at the hotel, which simplified some of the logistics on the wedding day (and the other guests stayed in the hotels nearby). When we arrived, the bridal party was already starting with getting ready at one of my favorite spots of the hotel: the chill out area by the natural pool. After that the bridal party moved to the Bride’s room (one of those gorgeous ones with huge sliding doors, lots of light and ocean breeze). Bride’s Mom, best friends, some champagne and ocean view are always the perfect company while getting ready for your wedding. When we got to the boys’ room, it was as expected: groom with his dad, great vibe and awesome suit (as it was pretty hot, some shorts and t-shirt would probably feel more refreshing, but at this type of event style is a priority). What an emotional moment it was!

An awesome ceremony, full of emotions, tears and kindest words from family and friends, and the gorgeous sunset at this wedding were indescribable: hope the photos cope to tell more, but it was simply the best! Everything went perfect, and after the ceremony we headed for a short couple “love story” session at the beach (this is the moment when we can get more “touchy and feely”, and get a couple of artistic shots as well), and then proceeded to the family photos.

When the sun finally set and the dinner started - came the moment for the toasts, with some touching speeches full of emotions by the bride, groom and their family.

First dance, followed by father & daughter and mother & son dance opened the wedding dance floor, which is one of our favorite parts of the destination weddings in Mexico - fiesta! Many of the photos of this wedding celebration we feel are worth saving as private, but these guys definitely know how to party! One could feel that everyone: bride and groom, and their family and friends, enjoyed that moment to the fullest.

Thank you so much Maye and Gustavo for letting me be your photographer that day, for your openness to many of the wedding tips shared during our long preparatory calls, and for so many positive feelings and emotions - everything resulted in a gorgeous and smooth wedding. The staff of Hotel Escondido, together with the MUAH magic by Coconut Beautyroom and other providers working as a team, did an amazing job of designing and implementing the details, and showed the highest level of professionalism before and on the wedding day - thanks to them all of these ideas could become reality.

Time to capture Your story!
